The History of Weathervanes
The history of weathervanes spans many centuries and countries. The earliest recorded weathervane was found on the Tower of the Winds in Athens, built by the astronomer Andronicus in 48 BC. The Ancients believed that winds had divine powers, and weathervanes depicting deities could be found on the villas of wealthy landowners in Greece and pre-Christian Rome.

Materials and Construction
- The decorative feature and spacer balls are crafted from polished copper, giving them a beautiful shine.
- The cardinal points (North, South, East, West) are made of polished brass, adding an elegant touch.
- A black steel rotation rod provides durability and stability.
- All components are brazed together by hand, ensuring quality craftsmanship.
Weathering and Maintenance
Over time, the polished copper will develop a patina, giving it a unique and attractive look. Applying a clear lacquer spray can slow down this process if desired. The polished brass will naturally discolor with time. To extend the life of the steel rotation rod, a coat of Hammerite can be applied.
